… after actively avoiding bread and cereal for 6 months, I’ve begun introducing them into my diet again - purely for the convenience and options they give me - muesli or a toasted cheese are just soo easy.

But there’s a cost:: my stomach is really struggling to process the new food. For many hours after eating, I suffer from hectic stomach churning, as well as room-clearing gass emissions.

What’s the cause ? Gluten, lactose, sugar …

Other than simply cutting out these foods again, does anybody else experience this discomfort, and what workarounds have worked for you?

Help!

You can get the gluten free options? I have a friend that actually physically gets sick when she eats anything with gluten, including oats, as oats during the manufacturing process can get in contact with other products containing gluten. Don’t know how that happens 🤷🏻‍♀️ but she has to get the oats that don’t have gluten in them. Or she throws up for the next day and a half. If dairy is affecting you as well. There are vegan options. That aren’t necessarily expensive, so I’ve heard. I’ve never tried vegan cheese. I hope your stomach settles…

how long have you started eating these ..it's possible that your body needs to adapt so you could introduce them slowly...

Yes, what lessthan15 said is true, maybe you need to give it a few days.

I had this happening to me when I was on low carb high fat diet. You basically just got rid of all the inflammation from your body as you cut out grains etc just to introduce them again. It's your body's way of coping with the shock. If you insist carrying on it will 'normalize' but try stick to whole grain, less sugars and refined wheats. Rye even sourdough better than normal flour. Good luck

It sounds like gluten and wheat issues. I've discovered years ago after eating a sandwich for lunch that I feel bloated and uncomfortable. Over time I learned it's the bread. Since cutting down and almost not having it at all I don't feel like that anymore. Why not opt for a healthier alternative that is still quick and easy to make like a shake? I love my shakes cos it makes my life so much easier than trying to figure out what to eat. You get gluten free shakes. Happy to give advice if you message me.

@ Fatgirlslim1982 - thanks. I will be reverting to the gluten free steel cut oats that worked so well. This will just mean a bit more previous nite prep - but how difficult is overnight soaking the oats in a flask of boiling water. I bought a wide mouth Stanley food flask specially for this purpose. This will also take care of needing to use milk.

@ lessthan15 - thanks. I started trying this about 10 days, but I should just face the facts. My addict bit loves it. The rest of me doesn’t …

Try English muffins instead. Toasted they are nice. Haven’t eaten bread in years!

@ DaniMomof3 thank you. I was feeling good on LCHF, and it seems double-doff of me to forget that. When you said *inflamation* the lights went on.

@ Wellness Momma - thank you. Could you say more about gluten free shakes please. I like the experience of eating crunchy foods - this might pose a challenge? Is this an issue for you?

@ marelicsabai - thanks. Does one get gluten free English muffins?

… yes. Disordered eating, for sure. Thanks for writing. I’m piecing together some of what you’ve said, and trying to make sense of it. 1. My stomach was a lot more settled on LCHF, and I’ve forgotten this 2. I could do well to remember that in pursuit of lower weight, I was eating too few calories - substantially under the recommended number 3. Prolonged low calories has not been the best - it’s main cost has been my mental health 4. Perhaps revert to my happy LCHF, but eat a bit more I appreciate you all writing

Think this through a bit: before your LCHF lifestyle, did bread and wheat affect you the same way? If so, gluten intolerance can be tested. If not, it's just your body adjusting to normality, so take it really easy reintroducing carbs. As far as a Caloric deficit, we can do that indefinately (if it's not a starvation plan), provided we remain in a positive nitrogen balance (enough protein.)

My shake is gluten free. The crunchy bit won't be a problem. Who said you must drink your shake? You can eat it too. Lol. Got nice recipes for that and yoi can always ad your own crunchies. Contact me on whatsapp or inbox me. I forget to come check again. 0829665463. Tx
