A good way is to make sure you weigh and log everything that passes your lips no matter how much or embarrassing it may be. That way you can see what's working and what's sabotaging your efforts. Read other people's journals and diet diaries to see what's working for them and experiment. Don't be afraid to ask questions, there's lots of people happy to share ideas. Best of luck, both of you

Good advice, Phooka. See, for example, my recent New Year's Eve journal, logging 10+ vodkas in one evening. :-) Having to write down what you had really does make you own it!

You will tweak your intake constantly over the time you take to reach your goal weight so don't fixate on staying on a particular course right at the start. I changed my carb intake and upped my exercise and my weight loss changed up a gear immediately. I have one night on the booze a week and it's generally a biggie so I log and run! Don't be embarrassed about anything though, there are plenty of people here who do it too!
