Attention dog lovers: Over Labor Day week, Houston Collie Rescue, in accordance with a bankruptcy judge's orders, took in 139 (!!!) collies from an animal hoarder. What was supposed to be 3 dogs, turned into 35, and then over 100, and then puppies were born.....well, you get the picture.

One of my own dogs was a rescue obtained from HCR a few years back and I can personally attest to the great things this organization does. With over 130 dogs to care for, this group needs continuing help! It's pretty amazing what they've done so far....the worst cases are already in foster homes and many more of the collies are going to foster homes every day. It's possible that the overall number of collies to be cared for will grow, as more female dogs may have been in the early stages of pregnancy at the time of seizure.
Eventually, these dogs will be available for adoption, but they've got a long way to go in foster care as even the "easiest" ones need to be brought to a healthy weight and then spayed or neutered.
