I started this journey out of necessity: either lose weight or buy new clothes. I'm cheap by nature and so didn't want to buy new clothes. My wife had just started a new diet, too (Optavia) and I didn't want her looking better than me 😉. I've never been about dieting--too many body issues get wrapped up in it and I didn't want to model this to my kids. I also know "diets" often don't work because they aren't sustainable. Mostly though, I've just never needed to think much about my weight.

Until I got 40 that is and the pounds started piling on. Suddenly, the guy who was always thin and fit had to think carefully about which pants he'd try to wear. I downloaded this app out of curiosity as to how many calories I eat in a day. I literally had no idea and, wow, it wasn't pretty. Turns out all the things I like to eat are loaded with calories! Who knew? I was easily packing away 2500 to 3500 calories a day--and not burning nearly that. No wonder I was gaining weight! Now, my three week average caloric intake is in the 1600s and the pounds are slipping off. I'm down 12 pounds in a month and feeling pretty good about how my clothes are fitting. Being lighter even makes working out easier. If someone had asked me as a 215 pound male if I could have even survived on 1600 calories I would have said no. Now? I don't even sweat it.

Really appreciative of this app (well designed!) and this community.

My husband was a thin, fit guy until his 40th as well. Must be a "guy thing", lol. You're doing great. WTG!!!

Zach this sounds like my story exactly! Only my calorie intake was probably closer 4000 to 5000 per day!🙄 Always worked hard, so while I was never skinny I maintained about 20 pounds overweight my whole life. Then I got diagnosed with diabetes. As soon as they put me on insulin I blew up like a balloon! When I got on here and started tracking my calories for the first time in my life it absolutely blew my mind!! Who knew? Good luck on your journey. You got this!
