Everyone has their own mountain to climb. Here are some pictures... this was mine.

At the beginning of April, my husband and I visited a possible venue for our daughter's wedding. We walked down the pathway to the gazebo, but by the time I reached the foot of it, I was out of breath and there was an alarming tightening and pain in my chest. To my chagrin, I never made it to the top. With a then blood pressure of over 200 systolic and carrying 36 pounds of extra weight, not surprising.

Over the course of the next several months, I worried I would be the blemish to an otherwise perfect wedding day for our only child. I even considered calling the hotel to inquire about accommodations for handicapped guests who were unable to climb to the top.

Not in anyone's wildest imagination would someone call this a mountain or even a hill. But it was my personal Everest.

In preparation to meet with the florist, we made a return visit yesterday. Since they only have valet parking there, I promised I'd only be two seconds. In my haste to quickly snap a few pictures, I sprinted over to the gazebo, took the snapshots, and ran back to the car.

I glanced over to my husband, and all he said was "Piece of cake, wasn't it?"

Yes, it was a piece of cake!

On the drive home, I was thinking mountains are meant to be conquered... one exercise at a time and one meal at a time. Oh, and I was also thinking soon I will definitely have a splurge day and actually eat a piece of cake.

Now, if someone can help me with the next mole hill... how to wear heels all day and not have sore feet!

BIG is out and THIN is in?

Sadly, our old BIG screen TV sits on the curb waiting to be picked up by the city (the color went out). (You know, one of those HUGE Mitsubishi relics). Could it wait until after our daughter's wedding? Nope. It had to pick the second day of the Olympics.

For nearly two weeks we scoured ads, trekked through electronic stores and department stores. We were bombarded by terms like HDMI, LED, LCD, plasma, and a whole host of choices. It was worse than picking a diet (and we all know how difficult that is). Do we pick 70 inches with no 3D or a smaller one with it? Do we want 240 or 120?

The worst part was the disruption to my exercise routine. Thank goodness our indecisiveness kept us racking up the miles as we wandered through malls and acres of electronics aisles.

At last on Saturday morning the TV was delivered. It was incredible...

...until Saturday night. No high def! The store offered us a refund after their tech couldn't solve the problem (sigh). On the off chance, we contacted our cable company, and on Tuesday yet another tech arrived.

Now, get this... what are the chances the cable company would decide to upgrade equipment and NO ONE would get high def two hours after our TV was delivered?

Buying new electronics should be fun and not so stressful. After all, it only took a few minutes to browse the selves of Barnes and Noble and select a life-altering diet book.

AND televisions should last longer than ten years! I sure hope my new lifestyle has a longer longevity than my poor Mistubishi!

On the other hand, the new one is indeed SLEEK and THIN, and the old BIG one is gone. And most importantly, it isn't me sitting on the curb waiting to be picked up by the city!

The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly. ~~ Buddha ~~

I control this moment with the choices I make, and it's not just about food choices, healthy or otherwise. I choose to bring happiness to others around me. As one of my buddies mentioned in a recent post, she will stay positive. I can do that! Another of my buddies is focusing on gratitude. I choose to be grateful.

Now, that's a start.

However, does this mean I shouldn't mourn the six brand-new 2XL tank tops I've never worn and need to clean out of my closet? How about the four pairs of brand-new jeans? They still have tags on them. (Not to mention three silk blouses I've barely worn.)

Today I'll start discarding the double digit/letter clothing, especially those prefaced with an X before the size. (I'm not quite sure how to do that earnestly, though.)

As a tangent to that, I'll clean out my lingerie drawer. Now, that's a no-brainer, a wise decision... if your underwear doesn't stay up anymore, out they go.

There, happiness, positivity, and gratitude. That's my list for today. Albeit a modest list, it's indeed a beginning. After all, Buddha had more practice, and maybe it takes time to develop a longer list. But then, again, did he ever have to clean out his closet... or even compile a list?
