It's all been happening this week and the Internet connection at home is so poor that I haven't had a chance to come here and write it all down.
We took Rika, our cat, to the vet's for a check-up on Monday afternoon - he said she was fine and the kittens could arrive any time this week, as we (and Baxie, thanks Baxie) had calculated. Sure enough, that very night she gave birth and we now have 5 kittens! Mother and babies all appear to be doing well although the last to be born was about half the size of the others. It was so small I honestly thought it wouldn't survive more than a few minutes but it's still here two days later and looking stronger every minute.
My first guests of the summer have left so I spent much of last night after work cleaning and doing laundry. I'd like to do the rest of it tonight so I don't have to spend the weekend cleaning house, and also so there's a room ready for any unexpected guests.
The weather's suddenly very hot and we have summer full-on! The hot weather automatically limits my appetite, although unfortunately not my appetite for ice cream or ice-cold beer! Nevertheless, despite those indulgences, I'm expecting a further small loss this week. I've been so active with a lot of physical work and also started swimming, albeit with difficulty as I don't yet have a full range of movement in my left shoulder. That should improve as I persevere with the swimming over the summer months.
The school term has finished although we continue (the teachers) until 1st July tidying up, report writing, filing etc. I've just been told that I will be head of department next year so I have a lot to learn from the current incumbent over the next few weeks.
