Excellent: back to the elliptical and 1300 calories burned without being ready to stop. Sure beats walking.

Those exercise machines have a tendency to overestimate the calories burned(just to make you aware). The best way to tell is to where a heart monitor. But great job on the exercise.

I agree. You see a difference between Fatsecret's estimate of calories burned and my elliptical readout. In practice, the actual number doesn't matter so much. As long as the same calculations are used each day, it's the relative number that's important and if you are a hundred calories or more out, not a big problem. I know that I can lose weight consistently and at a good rate if I maintain an 1800 - 2300 calories (intake versus burn) differential, as calculated by my equipment and Fatsecret's food values. Either way, the elliptical is much more efficient at burning calories than 4 mph walking and, for me, less painful. I still walk as well though, to keep other muscles in tone.

Regarding the heart rate, the elliptical allows me to get the rate up and down as I want, based upon the beat of the music I listen to while exercising. Walking can't do that. It's be a strange sight for me to be doing 148 paces a minute for 4 minutes down the road ! Actually I think they call that running :-)
