I'm finding mixed information regarding sugar alcohols and net carbs. I know that we are typically told to get the number of net carbs in an item that we subtract fiber and sugar alcohols. But I have also heard, in regard to sugar alcohols, that the carb count is off somehow and we should deduct only half of the sugar alcohol content to get a more accurate number.

I've been subtracting all of it, but I also don't eat very many things containing sugar alcohol, but I am curious as to which one is accurate. Anybody know?

It seems to come down to your individual reaction to sugar alcohols. Some people's insulin does spike when consuming them, others' doesn't. The only way to tell is with a glucose monitor. For myself, erythritol is the one to which I react the least. Splenda sends me into a tailspin.

I subtract the full amount of sugar alcohols, usually low carb products display the amount of net carbs on the package -- it has always verified the subtraction amount.
