Tuesday morning

And I had my first fast day yesterday (which means only 500 calories for the day)

I've decided after having read so much about it that I'm going to try the 5:2 fast diet
I know my problems with food is having bad habits and not about feeling hungry !

I've also decided to give up alcohol for the month of October and as someone who likes their
brandy and Diet Pepsi , this is going to be the bigger challenge for me 😱

It would interesting to know if anyone else is trying either of these things also ?

have a great Tuesday 😊 should you be reading this x

I tried giving up booze but it didn't work for me, my weight plateaued for two weeks then I put on weight - very contrary system I have! However, I have heard very good things about the 5:2 and everyone I know who has tried it has succeeded. I think you need to have a long-term view on it, the first couple of fast days will be difficult but you will get into the flow and it will be easier each time. Good luck, I hope it works for you.

I couldn't fast (I have a tendency to faint if I go without food too long) and I don't feel like giving up alcohol but well done - I'm full of admiration :)

I did a modified 5:2 for about 6 months. I found I couldn't stick to 500 cals, but did about 650-700 generally, and it still worked a treat. I found it especially useful over the Christmas period, as I could enjoy meals with others, and then do fast days, and it all worked out fine. I think I even lost a little overall. I think it's quite likely I will do it again this Christmas. Regarding alcohol, I used to drink half a bottle of wine every night, plus extras on some nights, and thought that was okay! I guess it contributed to my weight gain over the years, apart from everything else, but I enjoyed it and had a lot of fun socially. Doctor told me to stop that a few years ago, and it was hard giving it up. I carried on drinking smaller quantities, though. To lose weight, I have almost stopped drinking at home - it probably takes me 3-4 weeks to get through one bottle. If I go out, I usually do drink alcohol, but I'm so unaccustomed to it that it's very rare that I would get past two small glasses. I still find that a bit weird, but I just don't want more. However I also don't want to quit altogether. Sometimes I just want to drink some to relax, or be more chatty! With the quantities I'm drinking now, I don't see any need to give it up altogether. It's a habit. If you want to give up, make sure you have an alternative ready. Mine is herbal tea - peppermint at the moment 😀

Thanks for all your comments, I've reached an age where I just want to be in control of what I eat 😊 I've been reading about the 5:2 and the science behind it, I'm hoping it will work for me like it has for others. I've been vegetarian for a long time now but obviously not a very "healthy" one as I've put on a stone in weight 😳 the 5:2 I see as a way of living for me from now on, the giving up alcohol for a month is to test my will power, to prove to myself that I can 🍷I enjoy it too much to say I'll never have it again. It's interesting to read all your comments, I'm still finding my way round this site and I'm still not sure how to do some things..... or what difference some things make ? for instance what does being a "buddy" mean ? or supporting someone ? 🌻🌻

Lin - when you're buddies it's like having friends on Facebook. Under "Recent Activity" if you go to the right hand side, it says "Show activity from" and there's a drop down box where you can select My Buddies. Then you will see the journals and comments from your fellow buddies. I think the support button just is a way of saying that you're cheering your buddy on. That's my interpretation anyway :)

Yes, support is like 'like' on Facebook.
