I had blood work done for my physical and everything was normal and my Dr said it's normal, but some of my cholesterol numbers are toward the high side of normal. When I compare my cholesterol numbers from 2021 my numbers have gone up. 2024: cholesterol 157, LDL 93, VLDL 13, HDL 51.10, triglycerides 65. 2021: cholesterol 117, triglycerides 47, LDL66, VLDL 9.4. I don't understand, I strength train hard. In 2021 I was strict with my calories and in a deficit. I went up on my calories to help build muscle and get stronger and it has worked, but the cholesterol going up concerns me. I dropped my calories down a little and will get stricter with my eating and after a little while drop my calories down a little more.

Apparently it’s normal for the ldl to go up a bit when the weight is coming off. It will come back down after your weight normalizes and becomes stable again after weight loss. That’s based on scientific literature, which my weight loss doctor also confirmed when I asked about it.

All your numbers are perfect, even if they are a smidge higher ( but you know this already). Cardio and avoiding saturated fat has kept my numbers down. So if you’re concerned about the increase in the last 3 years, maybe look at your sat-fat intake. I’m pretty skeptical about processed protein powder products, too, so maybe compare that intake today with intake of 2021.

Ya, I haven't done cardio in almost a year now. I haven't gone walking or anything. Starting Sunday, I'll be starting to incorporate 30 mins of steady state cardio after my workouts. I haven't been walking outside since summer time. The Saturdays that I'm off and I would go walking it's either been too cold, raining or both.

Honestly, I’m beginning to think the medical Drs AND tests have the cholesterol thing all WRONG. I don’t trust their advice half the time. The more I study about nutrition (2 years now), the more I feel this way. I know most don’t agree with me, and that is ok. Everyone has their own beliefs and opinions. I eat 3-4 eggs a day, beef, liver, coconut oil (daily in my coffee) etc. and have lost 52 pounds and feel better than I have in years. I’m not going to ever getting on statins based on my cholesterol test. Statins are terrible for you IMO. Medical Drs will quickly say “eat low fat” and “here’s some statins”. I believe the OPPOSITE.

Your doctor is right. Those numbers are good. My cholesterol used to be 275. Now 210 after losing 40 lbs. A lot of it is genetics. I take a statin to keep my cholesterol under 150. I remember I was told I had high cholesterol when I was in college when I weighed 30 lbs lighter than today.

Most of the cholesterol is produced by your own body.

I don’t know your age but cholesterol increases as estrogen decreases

What’s wrong with 157 total cholesterol? Don’t beat yourself up. That’s still amazing, (probably, I’m not a doctor, your doctor knows best, and I’m still young and don’t know much). If you beat yourself up, you won’t stay on track, but if you are kind to yourself, you will! That way, you will keep your cholesterol at healthy levels (maybe, more likely at least to be healthy, but sometimes unexplained things also happen, so you’ll still have to see the numbers too). Unfortunately, I don’t know what the other numbers mean.
