Do you all use the recommended calories this app suggest? Or do you use a different site/calculator? My Fitbit says 1545 per day. This app says 1900. Online calculator says 1600; another one says 1400.
So to me it seems either I’m going to starve myself to death or just eat a little extra so my body doesn’t get mad…

I use FatSecret's RDI. Perhaps try something and see what is sustainable?

Last month I set it to 1800; now I set it to 1700. This app Says 1900 before years ago when I started using this app I just used what it said but now I keep reading and seeing all kinds of things about counting calories I’m just confused lol 😂

When I started FS gave me two choices 1500 and 1100. I chose the 1100 but in reality I tried not to go over 1200. 4 Months later and I find it difficult to get to 1200 sometimes. BTW, I never felt like I was starving.

Not me my old doctor told me 1200 calories per day only 50 carbs and high intensity workouts I just about killed myself. It was horrible and horrible advice. But everyone is different and that advice for me was the worst.

For men: if you consume less than 1500 per day for a long enough period of time your body will enter starvation mode. (This number is not hard and fast. It depends on metabolic rate and genes). I was on 1500 calorie diet while exercising 2-3 per week. After adjusting to the new diet I started eating slightly less than 1500 because it was comfortable to do so. After two weeks of this I stopped losing weight. I went up to 1800 calories and started losing weight. If your body doesn’t have the tools to metabolize food you’ll just hold on to it. I’m not a doctor don’t take this as medical advise. For women: same thing but 1200 calories.

Whocares2017, definitely you received some horrible advice! I am so sorry that happened to you. And I agree, 'information' on the internet is contradictory. I think that is why you can process the advice here; but at the end of the day, you really do know what works best. No one knows better than you. No one. If it works, and it truly feels healthy, then it is 'right.' The trick is one of discernment. You need to remember the difference between healthy choices that are sustainable, and short cuts that maybe are not so sustainable (or healthy). ❤️ Sent with love.

I personally use this as a recommendation. I am paying attention to what I have eaten in weeks I loose. Everyone is different in metabolism and activity so no one thing works for all. Try seeing what calories protein sodium carbs are when you loose steady. This may help. You can have low calorie but high carb and may gain.Good Luck going forward.

I’m doing the burn more calories than I eat method. So I’m using this app to track how much I ate so I can exercise it off. So if I eat 1700 calories I need to burn 1750+ if that makes sense. BUT to answer your question - I use what this app suggest as a guideline only

Trying the set amount for 2 weeks then I'll adjust. For me it's more about honestly, mindfully tracking what I'm eating. ABC, All Bites Count. I tend to mindlessly eat. I'm making an effort to sit down when I eat& thanking God for what I have to eat!! 🤔🤗🙏

whocares2017 - I was not suggesting you start at 1200 at all. I think the calories you need are based at the weight you are now and you slowly drop calories as you lose weight.

I noticed the same thing! A nutritionist recommended not going under 1500 or your body will hold on to fat. It depends on how fast or slow and steady you want to lose weight. Initially, for my goal to lose weight, I began around 1500 - 1600. Now that I’ve lost weight (47 pounds), my calculated RDI is 1900 for maintenance. I eat normally around 1600 - 1800 to maintain.

The calories recommended to me are just too high. On days that I hike and swim I can get by with that much but on days that I am sedentary for whatever reason I just have to cut back. It’s that simple. Fortunately I am not a snacker so it makes meal adjustments fairly easy.

I use a tdee calculator that includes body fat % then optimize with a cutting plan (subtract 500 cal) and follow a 40/40/20 with my macros (pro/fat/carb)
