I am an official triathalete! It was great fun! It was hard and challenging, exhilarating and exciting all at the same time. I feel pretty good about my results and met my goal. I wanted to finish for sure under 2 hours, but was shooting for 1 hr 45 min. I finished in 1 hr 46 min which includes the 2 transition areas coming in from the swim and after the bike. I spent too much time in that and added about 8 min of my time in all. It should have been more like 4 min in transtion total. Oh well, that is a live and learn. There were 425 participants and overall there were mainly very serious, fit athletes. I was 392 out of 425 people. I wish it would have been better, but like I said, we are talking tough competition of people who all have trained hard. Also, the #'s get so close together- like there were 40 people finishing within 5 min of my time, so it's all pretty close #'s.
The swim was interesting with people grabbing at my feet and seaweed wrapping around me for a while! After a bit that was fine. The biking was very hilly and challenging but went well. It was hard to get running after that hard bike ride, so my run time was a little longer than usual, but that went pretty good too. I felt a burst of energy the last mile and felt really good then. It was really cool to be a part of and I can't wait to do another one! If only they were free!
My times on the events, not incl.transitions were:
1/4 mile swim: 11:49
12.4 mile bike: 52:21
3.2 mile run: 34:31
Here are some pictures. I know you all will want to train for one too! Thanks for your support and encouragement!!
Here's one wave of the swim. It's divided up into 5 waves of people based on age for the start, 5 min apart.
