Same stuff, different day. Walked 3.4 miles this morning, accompanied by doggies for 1.2 miles. I not only have to watch out for them due to the heat but also due to hot pavement. Their route today included the shadiest parts of the neighborhood, but there's still no avoiding full sun in many places.

The temperature was 84 when we set out and 88 by the time I finished. The humidity is still high, but the breeze made it feel just a bit less wet than yesterday.

Just for today....no nut butters and no peanuts. That jar sure was beckoning me yesterday, but I remembered that "just for today" line from yesterday's journal and it made it a little easier to forego it. This is all just a mental exercise, but sometimes I can fool myself! I'm so gullible. LOL!

I'm still considering going to the gym this afternoon to get a feel for the place and maybe do a few exercises. DH will be there, so he can show me around. I'm used to machines, from ages ago, but there's always a new variation here or there and his being there helps me to fit in and not look so blatantly like a newbie. After I go and see the place once, I should be fine to go any other time on my own. I just feel worn out, so I haven't completely committed to doing this today. But I suppose nothing says I have to do a mega workout today. I WILL have to search out some workout clothes, though....not sure if any of my old stuff fits well enough to be seen in public.

You are doing fabulous, Sandy!! It is a bit cooler here today, and we are supposed to get some storms later tonight and through the weekend. Plants can sure use the rain, that's for sure! Have a wonderful day, my friend!

Sandy - I've just been looking at your profile and it is nice to see you have beaten a path for me to follow :) I have similar problems to you - I have the spoilt child in me too...if someone tells me I cannot have a slice of cake, I will find a way to have the whole cake! I have found reasoning with the spoilt child is also the best way to go :)

Hi Sandy - yes, Just For Today is a motto to live by. I agree with Buffy, reward yourself with an un-food treat. I am gullible too. FYI, in my desk drawer at work I keep a candy bar, & every day is just for today with that (has been in my drawer for well over 2 years now). It helps me say no to all the office treats, since I am gullible & believe that if I can leave that candy bar alone, I can leave the donuts, cakes, pies, brownies, etc that show up here on occassion. Just for today, I always say, Thanks for offering, but no thanks! When I quit smoking I kept a pack of smokes with me & in the car, saying just for today I will say no. They are my security blanket so that if ever there comes a day when I can't say no, I will have something right there for the now of it. I don't know if that makes any sense to anybody else, but it does work for me. Since starting Atkins, at home I keep a favorite crunchy snack (those baked wheat thins, gee I used to be able to eat a whole bag by myself), in the pantry, but just for today I say I don't need it. I look at them every now & then, very proud that the bag, (original one too - lol), is still there. Every now & then I get a yen for them, I look at the bag, even pick it up & read the label, marveling at the carb count, feel proud of myself that they are still there & gently place them back on the shelf. Heck, I think we all need a non-food treat - new gym clothes for all! I think maybe a new swim suit for me!

I think along the same lines. I have a Snickers bar in my cabinet and I look at it every morning when I get my vitamins. Everyday I choose not to eat it is a victory. I tell myself it is there "just in case" I HAVE to have something atleast I won't be binging, just one snickers bar. It has been there since January when I initially started on losing weight. It is still there..........

Stef, we've lucked out in getting a fair amount of rain for 2 or 3 days in a row now, thanks to afternoon storms. It's been great not having to water the garden and I've turned off the lawn sprinklers too. I bet you're doing a lot of watering for those tomato plants of yours!

GG-Girl and Dana....If the time comes when you actually succumb and eat those candy bars or Wheat Thins or smoke those cigarettes, they'll be so stale and icky, it will reinforce the notion that those things aren't really that good, anyway!

BuffyBear, I was able to use my old gym clothes. I had a few biker-type shorts that were actually cotton/Lycra blend and they were fine. They SHOULD stretch in order to put them on, but now, they didn't need to stretch very much at all! So, for now, I'm fine with those and a long t-shirt. I'm actually not sure I could find anything I'd want to wear if I went shopping now; no short-shorts and t-back halter/bra combos for me! LOL!

Wow walking in 88 degrees is big...Nice you can go to a gym in this hot weather and its only going to get worse as its not even summer yet..We are just now this evening getting some much needed rain. No rain for 2 weeks now everything is drying up.. Check out my journal each day for your daily dose of me saluting you with my coffee..Take care....Bren
