Not one bit of movement on the scale yet. I'm kind of worried that I might be eating SOMETHING wrong.

Yesterday I had:

Breakfast: pistachios and wedge of laughing cow cheese
Lunch: Leftover salmon with cucumbers and hummus
Dinner: Sirlion steak with green beans and mushrooms ( was surrounded by pizza all night and did not give in)
Snack: Almonds and a diet coke
Dessert: ONE sugar free candy

Do you guys think that diet coke could be ruining this all? My boyfriend and I haven't lost any weight, or is this normal for the first five days. Everyone makes it sound like it happens pretty quickly. Should I really re-evaluate what I'm eating or should I just learn to be more patient.

I do not think that your diet looks bad. Good job on the will power with the pizza! Perhaps your body is a bit of shock due to the drop in calories and thus is holding on. Give it some more time - your weight will drop. I suggest going a full week before stepping on the scale so you don't get so nervous that the number is changing quickly. The weight loss will take a couple days to kick in.

try having a stick of string cheese instead of the nuts, at least in one instance. Some people really have trouble with the nuts stalling their weight loss. If you do have them be sure to portion them out, it's really easy to eay WAY too many and they are way high in fat. I seem to do ok eating them once a day, but some people can't eat them at all. Try cutting them out and see if that makes a difference.

Your body will hold onto the weight at first because it freaks out and thinks you're under stress, but after a week or two it will give in and start to burn it. However, I would suggest getting rid of the diet drinks, they are actually diuretics which will cause you to retain the weight. Good job resisting pizza! Stick with it and remember that the scale will lie for the first few weeks.

I agree on only weighing in once a week, at least at first. The book talks about how our bodies are programmed for "feast or famine" During feast times the body stocks up on fats and then during famine the body conserves fuel/fat. Considering most of us have never experienced the "famine" before, sometimes our bodies do hang on to that sored fuel just in case. As long as you understand what's going on and don't freak out and give up, the pounds will start coming off within 2 weeks of your start date. Good luck, and keep up the good work!
