Monday update - lost 4 pounds last week. Good start but I know I can't keep losing at that rate.

A good Buddy sent me a nice PM about our "commitment issues". So true for me. Finding the will to commit for life - I know everybody has to find their own source of inspiration. Would love to hear from all of where you find your strength.

The busyness of life gets me distracted easily (fitness and weight loss included). I try to be easy on myself and realize that slips happen (in my case, for a month or so at times) and keep in mind that it's a long race and not a sprint.

Just take it one day at a time. Get through each meal, and once the sun sets you know you have won the war on that day. Trust and believe that you can do it!

I try to focus on eating & living healthfully, rather than being on a diet. For me, it's been finding a way of eating that I can do long-term with it allowing me to stay in a weight range that I'm comfortable with. And finding ways to exercise that I also enjoy and want to do regularly. I'm still and will always be a work-in-progress, staying curious while seeking progress not perfection as well as balance rather than the extremes of overly restrictive dieting vs overeating and binging. xoxox

Way - you are so right about those inevitable slips! Need to pace myself for that "long race". Thanks.

Draglist - Keep forgetting about averages. Good to remember since there will be many days when he food diary is not perfect. Note to self . . .

c67241 - I'll try to remember your words when the sun sets this evening. Maybe even pat myself on the back for making it another day.

Ruth - When I was younger I'd "diet" to lose 5 pounds fast, in some unhealthy fashion or another. Am hoping with age comes wisdom. And at my age it is about time I found some balance.

I try to focus on the "Why" I am doing this. In my case it's to be around and still energetic and healthy to do things with my son as he grows up, and, God willing, with his children one day. Focus on the daily activities (what I eat and what I do for exercise) and the results will folllow. Focusing solely on results is setting up for frequent disappointment.

You are a grandmother? A boy or a girl? You may think of staying haelthy and in shape for them, striving to be an inspiration to your grandchildren may be your inspiration as well :-)

Texas Tom - Good point about "results". Losing weight is only a side effect of healthy living.

AilaOne - I've got 11 grandchildren; 5 girls and 6 boys. Yes, that should supply some incentive.

Buffy, I suppose my faith makes me 'want' to change. If I thought there was no hope beyond this life, and no consequences of depraved living, I would pretty much 'eat, drink and be merry' and indulge in every craving. But God still requires me to exercise the personal discipline to take care of my body and enjoy good health to be able to accomplish something beyond myself, for the good of my family and others. And besides that, how do you gain weight with 11 grandchildren? Haha.

That is something you really have to dig deep for as patience is not easy. My motto is take it one day and one meal at a time, and appreciate all new healthy habits you pick up along the way. But you have us to cheer you on too!

Any inspiration I ever have comes from either A. The support of friends and family, or B. My knowlage of the existence of God. The fact that some one would suffer tourture for me or even die even though I hurt him daily is pretty inspirational. Also C, Knowing that I actually can do ANYTHING with enof prayer helps me to know that this whole thing is not a lost couse.

After a lifetime of eating unhealthy, I have finally listened to my doctor who told me: "Eat healthy, exercise more, lose weight and you'll be fine." It took being diagnosed diabetic to spur me into action. After 14 months of doing just that, I got off the diabetic pills. Changing my foods also got me off the statin cholesterol pill.

Health issues where the tipping point for me to get me going with a lifestyle change and are still a big motivator. Feeling better as a result and the positive changes I see are a continuing motivator. A back injury from last year and continued problems with it even as I'm lighter from losing weight makes me think of what a future might be for me if I don't live healthier and continue on this journey. And not wanting to continue to be a slave to my body/cravings, to take control over the flesh so to speak, is another motivating factor
