I took a walk by the reservoir where a wild burro posed for me.
Photo Description:
1) Our campsite is near Senator Wash Reservoir. Boating, kayaking and jet skis are allowed here.
2) For a small fee you can even camp right on the beach!
3, 4 & 5) Wild burros (Equus asinus) are very skittish. This one let me get to within 20 feet before it spooked. Originally from Africa they were first introduced into the desert by the Spaniards in the 1500's where they're thriving. There are about 20,000 in North America. My mom saw these pictures and thinks this one may be pregnant. I learned females produce one offspring per year, which almost always reaches maturity because they have no predatory enemies. They live about 25 years in the wild.
