First - my NSV... I went to the podiatrist today about a foot problem (nothing related to weight or dieting). Where I noticed the victory was in filling out the initial paperwork.

The line read: "Check if you are currently (or in the past two weeks) experiencing any of these symptoms:". Following that was a list of things like; headaches, shortness of breath, fatigue, heart palpitations, joint pain, etc. All of these, I would have checked before I started this journey to health. I had come to "accept" (if you read my profile you'll know what I think of that word) that this broken down old lady was just who I was. Since I've been eating LCHF, all of these symptoms have gone the way of the pounds. I am fast leaving that old broken down lady behind. She's a wuss and a liar.

And now, a touch of dismay. I had lunch with my granddaughter today (that was the best part). She is 8 years old so I went to her school and ate in the cafeteria with her. There was only one choice for lunch so that's what they put on my tray. Suffice it to say that I know why our children are overweight. I ate carefully from what I was given and then later calculated that I had managed to consume only 65 calories, choosing the lowest carb options. For the 65 calories, I still logged 6.5 carbs and only 0.71 grams of fat.

Lunch was a single slice of lunch meat turkey on a full size hamburger bun, a half a fried hashbrown - ketchup optional, about 3/4 cup of whole kernel corn (no butter, no salt), a fruit cup (peaches or pineapple in "lite" syrup), and 1% milk (white or chocolate). I ate the turkey slice, about a tablespoon of the corn, and about a fourth of the milk. It was amazingly boring, orally unsatisfying, and nutritionally bereft. I felt so sad for my granddaughter. She is easy to feed and loves everything Keto that I cook. It would be so easy for her to eat well because she loves everything healthy. But the poor kids are never given the chance.

Carbs are cheap, the school's lunch programs are controlled by our U.S. & state governments. The only way to see that a child eats a healthy lunch at school is to pack one at home and send it to school with the child. And don't get me started on the local hospital's cafeteria food choices, just as bad.
